Safe Space Shelter

Creating pathways toward a better community

At Model Cities, we believe that shelter is much more than providing a bed; it’s providing hospitality and dignity for our whole community. Our shelter staff work to find ways to bridge housing insecurity and housing stability to help shelter guests refocus and create a plan for making tomorrow better than yesterday!

Safe Space Shelter

Safe Space shelter is an overnight emergency shelter currently located at Central Baptist Church (420 Roy St. N). It has 64 beds for adults and operates from 10pm – 9am nightly.

  • Email: ShelterEntry@ramseycounty.us

History of Safe Space: Responding with care

In November of 2019, we opened Safe Space shelter in partnership with Ramsey County during the winter month. However, to respond to the community needs, we’ve expanded to a year-round shelter, and now serve more than 2,100 unhoused individuals each year with overnight shelter and basic services including showers, toiletries, and prepared lunches.

Better today

Our goal was to create pathways toward a better community, with a specific focus not only on creating a safe place to sleep, but also a safe place to refocus and create a plan for making today better than yesterday. Safe Space provides beds for unhoused single adults and finds ways to bridge the gap between homelessness and housing stability.
