This community event is planned by Rondo natives and community members, and celebrates the rich and diverse history of St. Paul’s historic Rondo neighborhood.
It’s more than just a block party; it’s a tribute to the unique, vibrant, and dynamic essence of Rondo. The Rondo neighborhood was a significant cultural, residential, and business hub for the Black community in Saint Paul throughout much of the 20th century. The construction of the Interstate 94 freeway in the late 1950s and 1960s tragically displaced over 650 families and numerous businesses, deeply impacting the community. Despite these challenges, Rondo has evolved into a diverse and vibrant area, with both long-time residents and newcomers contributing to its revitalization. This event aims to honor the past, celebrate the present, and foster unity and cultural pride as we reconnect the threads of our shared history.
