Safe Space Shelter Back to Full Capacity Before End of Year

Now in it’s new location at Central Baptist Church, our overnight shelter will be fully operational in December

On Wednesday, December 11th, the Saint Paul City Council granted an Interim Use Permit (IUP) which allows us to expand shelter capacity at Safe Space, bringing our overnight shelter back to full capacity! n November, Safe Space moved from its Kellogg Ave location to Central Baptist Church (420 Roy St. N.). Initially we reopened with 25 shelter beds, serving women only. Now that the IUP has been granted, we are excited to announce that we’ll begin serving men and women at Safe Space on December 30, 2024!

Safe Space operates each night from 10 pm to 9 am the next day. Reservations are made by the Ramsey County Shelter Entry & Diversion Team. The goal of Safe Space shelter is to provide a safe, warm place for unhoused neighbors to sleep and recharge. At Model Cities we believe that shelter is much more than providing a bed; it’s providing hospitality and dignity for our whole community.

Thank you to the Saint Paul City Council, Mayor’s Office, Union Park District Council, and community members for supporting this critical request for our unsheltered community members. Additional gratitude to our partners at Ramsey County and Union Gospel Mission – Twin Cities for working together to fill a much-needed gap in shelter beds over the past month. We are grateful to work within an ecosystem that strives to keep our unsheltered neighbors safe and warm each and every day.
