The MN House and Senate have passed legislation for $1 Billion dollars to support and address housing needs for Minnesotans. On Monday May 15, Governor Walz signed the $1 billion housing omnibus bill, the largest single investment in housing in Minnesota history!
This historic investment will help construct new housing units, support non-profit affordable housing developers, reduce homeownership disparities, promote housing stability through homeless prevention services and increase access to rental assistance programs like “Bring It Home” that will support 5,000 qualified families starting in 2024.
Kizzy Downie, our CEO, was part of those who testified in early May when the Stable Housing Organizational Relief (SHARE) bill was still being debated in the MN House. Model Cities and others from Catholic Charities Twin Cities, Project Pride for Living (PPL), Aeon and other affordable housing developers offered support of the Stable Housing Organizational Relief (SHARE) bill in the Omnibus Housing Finance and Policy Bill, which received $50 million.
