To celebrate the end of summer and the return to school our neighbors Victoria Theater Arts Center, Privilege Barber Lounge and S.H.I.N.E. co-hosted a fun event in early September at our Pocket Park on University. Community members were treated to fun activities, giveaways and back-to-school haircare! The small park is on the same block as Victoria Theater Arts Center and our BROWNstone building.
Earlier this summer, Victoria Theater Arts Center (now 825 Arts) hosted a spectacular freestyle battle, honoring the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop in the same location. FreeStyling is an extemporaneous form of rapping in which artists can cover a range of topics and styles. In a ‘battle’ the most creative lyricist needs to come up with on-the-spot creations over the same beat. Artists of all ages were invited to perform, with a Central High School student taking the crown.
