Seeding the Future with our Homeownership Accelerator

Stories of impact from “Grounded & Growing” our 2025 Annual Report

Introducing our Homeownership Accelerator

In 2026 we’ve taken a fresh approach to dismantling systemic barriers to homebuying with the Model Cities Homeownership Accelerator. The six-month program goes beyond traditional financial wellness, supporting generational healing to build generational wealth. Classes meet biweekly to build a cohort led by our Economic Services team, in partnership with Rondo Community Land Trust and West Side Community Organization.

This accelerator pilot cohort is rooted in the belief that information alone is not enough. Many barriers people experience with homebuying are tied to larger historical and systemic issues, shaping how people see themselves and what they believe is possible for their future. Our program is about addressing barriers that are not going to show up on a financial statement–changing who feels like they belong in conversations about wealth, stability and ownership.

-Jeff Wills, Economic Services Manager

Removing barriers through guaranteed income and credit building support

Participants will receive $6,500 with access to additional funds in 0% interest credit opportunity loans to clear financial obstacles. By focusing on adults in the metro who identify as BIPOC and feel overwhelmed by the homeownership process, we’re continuing 60 years of directly addressing disparities affecting our neighbors.

The inaugural cohort began sessions in March 2026 and will meet through August with access to individualized pre-purchase counseling and services afterward for continued support.
