Job Description:                                                                                                    

Model Cities owns and operates over 70 units of supportive and affordable housing in the Frogtown neighborhood of St. Paul.  This portfolio includes the 35-unit Brownstone building, which is also home to Model Cities main offices and five commercial suites.  Opened in late 2017, the Brownstone anchors the busy University-Victoria corner and is a shining example of Model Cities vision of building community in the Frogtown neighborhood.

 

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Caretaker performs professional level cleaning, preparing units, minor repairs and preventative maintenance, landscaping and upkeep of the Brownstone Building both inside and out.  This includes activities that ensure the Brownstone is well maintained, clean, and safe.

 

The ideal Caretaker is personable and comfortable working in an environment with persons of diverse backgrounds, is aware of facility needs and systems, and is a self-starter who can work without a lot of direct supervision.

 

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleaning BROWNstone Residential common areas as needed to keep clean and tidy
  • Cleaning Model Cities Offices as needed to keep clean and tidy
  • Cleaning of Flynn Community Room and Reading Room: Prep and Clean before/after events.
  • Complete work orders for preventative maintenance, inspection preparation
  • Apartment turnover cleaning
  • Building Exterior Cleaning: Sweep and pick up all trash around building
  • Landscaping: Weeding at Pocket Park and perimeter of building; Trim grass
  • Snow Removal: Shovel and salt sidewalks when less than 1”as needed
  • Trash/Recycling (assisting others as needed): Pull out Dumpster from Parking garage. Pull out Residential Recycling in time for scheduled pickup.
  • Represent Model Cities in a professional, courteous manner, including neatness and cleanliness in the maintenance uniform. Maintain positive, professional relations with residents, staff, and commercial clients at all times.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability in property cleaning and upkeep, work order administration, planning and scheduling property maintenance.
  • Well organized and attention to detail.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School Diploma/GED, technical or vocational training preferred

 

  • 3-5 years’ experience in property maintenance and cleaning
  • Experience working with diverse and special needs populations.

 

  • Excellent communication skills, written, and oral.

 

Available to respond quickly to emergencies with little or no notice.   Valid Minnesota Driver’s license and proof of insurance required and must be able to drive own vehicle from site to site.  Criminal background check is required for this position.

Salary: Mid $30,000’s (Depending on Qualifications)
