HOUSING COUNSELOR

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Housing Counselor provides program coordination of homeownership education services and will represent our agency to a diverse group of clients, community partners and stakeholders. The Housing Counselor for homebuyer education services will work in partnership with the Director of Community Services and other staff to plan, develop, and support homebuyer education classes and other special projects including a new Owner-Occupied Housing Pilot. Our Economic Services Department has years of experience supporting families, individuals and small businesses to achieve their homeownership and financial goals. Our team is expanding, with a number of new growth opportunities available to better serve our communities. Our work environment is fast-paced and is ever evolving with new regulations and technology.

As a Housing Counselor you will serve individuals and families with the greatest barriers, and assist them in reaching their greatest successes. We engage with groups from varying income levels, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. We are looking for a Housing Counselor who is adaptable, resourceful, and knowledgeable. In this role, strong project management and facilitation skills coupled with the ability to build trusting and collaborative relationships will be vital for success. The Housing Counselor will report directly to the Director of Community Services.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Provides program coordination for homeownership education services

Facilitates Homestretch workshops for prospective homebuyers

Develops pilot homeownership programming

Supports development and coordination of owner-occupant landlord education services

Assists in the recruitment and preparation of owner-occupants

Cultivates collaborative relationships with community partners through networking and community outreach to support individuals and families building wealth and maintain financial stability.

Researches and stays up-to-date on existing financial resources and the financial industry.

Maintains timely and accurate data entry into databases and hardcopy files to maintain and manages client data, compliance information, and other related documents.

Minimum Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field required. Knowledge or experience in Mortgage and/or real estate, banking or related areas desirable. Two years related experience in financial education or literacy; homebuyer education; and/or foreclosure prevention counseling is required. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, must have at least four years of experience in financial education or literacy; homebuyer education; and/or foreclosure prevention counseling. Knowledge or experience in Mortgage and/or real estate, banking or related areas desirable.

Must be certified or become certified within twelve (12) months in Homeownership Counseling through the MNHOC or Neighbor Works. Must be certified or become certified within six months in HUD Housing Counseling Program. Background Check required for this position.

 

Compensation: Mid to High 40s, depending on qualifications and experience.
