ROOF Project

The ROOF Project is collaboration between Model Cities and the Wilder Foundation that provides scattered-site transitional housing with supportive services to homeless families. The primary goal of ROOF is to help families move towards permanent housing, improved their employment skills, and increased their income. The intent is to stabilize these families and prevent future episodes of homelessness.

Upon entering the program, ROOF participants begin working towards the following goals:

  • Obtaining permanent housing for participants
  • Improving employability, thereby increasing their income
  • Maintaining regular school attendance and achieving academic success for school-aged children.

Many families have excelled and accomplished these goals while participating in the ROOF Project. ROOF works with more than 70 private landlords in Ramsey County, and is been able to provide housing options that helps families move from shelter and off the street into housing that is affordable. Also provided is education and support centered on mental health, substance abuse and domestic violence issues.

No matter the situation, the ROOF Project encourages families to persevere, and supports them in fulfilling their hopes, dreams and visions.
